A ‘proper’ ragu in a vintage shoebox

What’s the small thing you’d like to talk about?

My wife was ill and awaiting going through pretty serious treatment, we still didn’t know the full long term prognosis and as such our brains were totally fried.

A friend of ours put together a date night kit for a nice home cooked Italian meal. A homemade slow cooked ragu, the ‘nice’ dried pasta, pre-portioned Parmesan/basil for garnish, a bottle of wine and tiramisu for desert. All in a cool vintage shoe box - Lol.

How did it make you feel?

It was a cool move as meant we didn’t have to think about tea for one night (underrated) and it didn’t cost much, but, it took some proper effort/thought and it provided something different and fun for my wife and I both to enjoy and look forward to. The friend and I have chatted about cooking for years so it was on brand as a sort of competition as well (“here’s a proper ragu, you wee ****” sort of vibes), which again was something fun and not “being sick” to focus on.

What might you want others to take from this?

Something different and lowkey fun if possible is great. This was practical on the dinner side but also was a bit of light fun/different to focus on. Doesn’t have to be a grand/expensive gesture to land well.
